Otter Boys Score 3 in Period 3 for 4-1 Win in Home Opening Game

Three third period goals carried the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team to a 4-1 win over Northern Lakes in their home opener on Tuesday night.  The Otters had 35 shots on goal and Northern Lakes managed 30 shots in the contest.

The first period was scoreless, but in period number two Northern Lakes took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Jameson St. Clair at 12:01.  With just 11 seconds remaining in the period, Isaac Johnson tied the game with a goal that was setup by Cole Wentworth.

Michael DeBrito notched the game winner at the 2:02 mark of the third period with Wentworth earning the assists.  Isaac Johnson assisted on Carter’Thielke’s goal at 2:37 of the third and Cole Zierden scored the final goal with assists from Thielke an Isaac Johnson.

Ben Swanson made 29 saves in the Otter net, while Cyril Thull had 31 saves for Northern Lakes.

“The guys’ battled through a tough-fought game,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “Northern Lakes put us on our heels in the second, but Swanny was great and Isaac was able to tie it at the end of the second.  We had a great third period and were able to score a couple of goals skating 4-on-4 to give us a little breathing room.”

The Otter boys’ will host Willmar at 5:00pm Saturday.
