The Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 Bantam A Hockey team hit the road and split a pair of games this past weekend.

The Fergus Falls Bantam A team hit the road this past weekend. Saturday they traveled to Detroit Lakes to take on the Lakers. The Lakers proved to be a skilled team both offensively and defensively. They were able to hold the Otters to 2 goals in the first period. The goals were scored unassisted by Kile Beck and Jack Welde. Unfortunately the Lakers were able to find their way through the Otter defense and end the first period with a score of Otters 2, Lakers 5. The Lakers dominated the 2nd period holding the Otters scoreless and adding 2 goals for themselves. Starting the third period down 2-7, the Otters needed to fight to come back. The Lakers showed that they were not backing down by scoring 2 more goals before the Otters could answer back. With ½ the period remaining and the clock running, the Otters were running out of time, they fought hard. The first goal of the period came from Welde assisted by Cam Alt bringing them to a 5 point disadvantage. Finding the back of the net again with just 5 minutes remaining in the period is Welde, from Quinn Wynn-Sheldon. With under 2 minutes remaining the Otters continued to dig deep and push their limits. The clock returned to stop time when Beck found the net with the assist from Adam Kennedy. With under a minute remaining, the Otters were able to slide one past the Laker goalie one last time. The goal is credited to Welde with assists from Alt and Michael Schmidt. The Otters were not able to find the win but close the gap a bit with a loss of 6-9.

Sunday afternoon the Otters traveled to Little Falls for another district game against the Flyers. Ready to play for the win the Otters came out with speed and energy. To start off the Scoring Welde had a slick unassisted goal. Less than a minute later Alt flying down the ice sees Schmidt, Alt sends a beautiful pass, Schmidt seals the deal giving the Otters a 2 point lead. At the end of the first period Otters lead 2-0. Coming into the 2nd period the Flyers quickly got on the board making the Otters lead only 1. Halfway through the period the Otters had a small injury resulting in a player sitting out the remainder of the period. Already down a player and tired the Otters fought. Welde quickly gave them a cushion that was needed scoring 2 goals back to back. One of the goals was assisted by Wynn-Sheldon and Alt, the other came from a stretch of sweet moves and Welde finding the net unassisted. The Otter defense and goalie showed great strength by holding the Flyers throughout the whole 2nd period. At the end of the 2nd the Otters lead 4-1. Coming back in the 3rd period the Flyers were able to get 2 on the board only leaving the Otters up by 1. The Otters fighting to keep the lead and the Flyers fighting for the tie. The Flyers pull the goalie as Alt comes down the ice, he sees Braden Albert and Albert seals the win with an open net goal and only 23 seconds remaining in the game. The final score is Otters 5 Flyers 3. Other contributing players include, Brock Scheuerman, Henry Greenagel, and Aiden Schake.

Over the weekend Otter goalie Holden Stenstrom saves 58 shots. The Otters are coached by Pete Gaustad, Mike Alt, Matt Koalska, and Dustin Wynn. The Otters again would like to thank the VFW for their continued support.
