Lady Spartans Held to 41 Points in Road Loss to 4th-Ranked Northland

The M State lady Spartans had a hard time scoring points on Tuesday night as they shot just 27.7% (18-65) from the field and made only 3-of-22 (13.6%) 3-point attempts in a 67-41 road loss to Northland in Thief River Falls.  They were also outrebounded 50-30 in the game.  M State fell behind 43-21 at halftime and trailed 57-28 after three quarters.

“Really proud of the determination and hustle in the second half of this game,” commented M State Head Coach Jodi Holleman.  “They were bigger and stronger than us, and proved why they are ranked number four in the nation.  We will get to play them at home next Saturday.”

Mackenzie Foss had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to lead the lady Spartans.  Emily Dehler finished with 8 points, 6 boards, 2 assists and 4 steals and Lindsey Kurz contributed 6 points, 6 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.

Macy Skyberg led Northland with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Kasey Stegman had 10 points, 4 rebounds and a pair of steals, Jackie Lynn Taflin finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.  Keylee Dahl was the leader on the boards with 12 rebounds.  Tessani Peterson and Nicole Swedberg chipped in with 9 and 8 points, respectively, off the bench.

M State (1-1) will host Sisseton-Wahpeton College at 5:30pm Tuesday, November 30 in Fergus Falls.
