The Northland Pioneers made 61.4% (35-57) of their field goal attempts and 5-of-9 3’s on Tuesday night as they recorded a 95-87 win over the M State Men’s Basketball team in Thief River Falls.  The Pioneers were also 20-for-25 from the free throw line and held a commanding 56-32 advantage on the boards.

Zack Meyer registered a double-double for the home team, scoring 13 points and pulling down 18 rebounds, while dishing out 5 assists.  He was joined in double figures by Ryan England and AJ Jennings with 19 points apiece, Quincy Leday with 13 and Jaylen Webb with 17 off the bench.  Webb also had 9 rebounds and a team high 6 assists.

M State forced 37 Northland turnovers on the night, but the Pioneers strong shooting overcame their errors in ball handling.

The Spartans had six players reach double figures, led by Mert Taylor with 17 and Larrie Bell with 16.  Renell Edwards turned in a strong all-around game with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals.  Brett Engelmeyer and Nic Pearson added 11 points each and Tyler Loe had 10.  Jaden Lee and Bell led the rebounding effort with7 and 6 boards apiece.  M State struggled with their shooting, making just a third (32-96) of their field goal attempts.  They were 10-for-53 (18.9%) from 3-point range and made 13-of-17 free throw attempts.  The Spartans had only a dozen turnovers in the game.

M State is now 2-2 on the season.  They will host Sisseton-Wahpeton College at 7:30pm Tuesday, November 30.
