Central Lakes Knocks Off Spartan Men in Home Opener at M State

The Central Lakes Raiders dominated the boards and broke the century mark on Thursday night as they spoiled the home opener for M State with a 108-96 victory over the Spartans.  Central Lakes built a 59-37 halftime lead, however, M State rallied to cut the lead to 9 points in the final two minutes, connecting on 14 of their 21 3-pointers in the second half, led by 7 from Tyler Loe who finished with 23 points.  The 21 made 3's broke the previous Spartan record of 20 which was set against Ridgewater during the 2007-2008 season.

Brett Engelmeyer added 5 treys and ended up with 17 points for M State and Renell Edwards scored all 15 of his points in the second half, including a trio of 3-point field goals.  Nic Pearson was also in double digits with 14 points.

M State made only 36.2% (34-94) of their shots from the floor, but connected on 21-of-57 (36.8%) from beyond the arc.  Loe was 7-for-15 on 3’s and Engelmeyer made 5-of-11.  Larrie Bell led M State with 5 rebounds and Edwards had a team high 4 steals.

Five players reached double digits for Central Lakes with Rodney Oliver leading the way with 28 points.  Josh Lewis contributed 18, Jalen Dearring 13, Quamar Gresham 11 and Treveon Jones 11.

Oliver made 12-of-13 field goal attempts and the Raiders made 65.6% (42-64) of their shots in the game, including 5-of-14 3’s (35.7%). They also hit 76% (19-25) of their free throws.  Central Lakes dominated the boards, 59 to 32.  They were led by Lewis with 12 rebounds.  He also had 10 assists to finish the night with a triple-double.  David Felix was also in double digits with 10 rebounds.

The Raiders survived 35 turnovers as they improved their season record to 2-1.

M State is now 2-1 on the season.  They will travel to Thief River Falls to face Northland Community College on Tuesday night.  Their next home game is Tuesday, November 30 against Sisseton-Wahpeton.
