Spartan Men Rally in Second Half to Win Over Concordia JV

The M State Men’s Basketball team overcame a 45-35 halftime deficit to defeat the Concordia JV team by the score of 77-74 on Monday night in Moorhead.  The Spartans struggled with their shooting, hitting 34.1% (28-82) of their field goal attempts, making only 26.5% (13-49) of their 3-point shots and connecting on a paltry 47.1% (8-17) of their free throw opportunities.

Brett Engelmeyer led four Spartans in double figures with 19 points.  Jonathan Robinson scored 15 and Davis Langston was joined by Mert Taylor with 10 point apiece.  Langston and Larrie Bell led the rebounding with 7 and 5 boards each.  Renell Edwards dished out 8 assists and had 4 steals on the night.  Davis also came up with 4 steals, while assisting on 3 baskets.

M State took good care of the basketball as they had only 12 turnovers.  They forced 24 Concordia turnovers, recording 16 steals.

The Cobbers made 47.6% (30-63) of their shots from the floor, but connected on only 3-of-16 (18.8%) from beyond the Arc.  M State had a slim 47-43 edge on the boards.

Mason Gravseth led the Cobbers with 23 points.  Henning grad Isaac Fisher finished with 14 and Perham graduate Elijah Morris contributed 11.

M State (2-0) will host Central Lakes Community College from Brainerd in their home opener on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
