Hawley needed five sets to close out the third place match in the Class AA State Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Nuggets won 29-27, 12-25, 22-25, 31-29, 19-17 in an extremely hard-fought match with Mounds Park Academy. The Nuggets served 93% (104-112) on the day.
Leaders for the Nuggets were Faith Rustad (22 kills, 16 digs, 15/16 serving, 1 ace), Anna Steer (15 kills, 20 digs, 20/22 serving, 3 aces), Alexandra Eilertson (9 kills, 48 set assists, 19/19 serving, 1 ace, 28 digs), Grace Fleming (9 kills, 22/22 serving, 1 ace, 30 digs) and Alex Reeba (5 kills, 13 digs, 13/16 serving, 1 ace).
Kaija Kunze-Hoeg led Mounds Park Academy with 44 kills and 28 digs. Violet Cammack had a team high 35 digs and was a perfect 21-for-21 on the serving line with 3 aces. Marin Gray went 18-for-18 serving with an ace, came up with 28 digs and delivered 9 kills, Else Kunze-Hoeg distributed 58 set assists, had 21 digs and went 25-for-27 on the serving line with 3 aces.
Hawley ends their season with a record of 29-6.
