Fergus Falls seventh-grader Cassie Wellman finished in 21st place with a time of 19:34.00 at the Class AA Girls Cross Country meet on Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield.  "I am so proud of Cassie’s performance," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  "Being a young runner, she ran a smart and fearless race being mindful of the athletes from our section that she knew. At the same time she was not afraid to run out and challenge her position with them."

St. Paul Highland Park won the team title with 61 points.  Willmar was second with 78, just one point ahead of Alexandria.

Three sophomores came across the finish line first, led by Isabelle Schmitz (17:59.44) of Hutchinson.  Olivia Goebel (18:07.90) of Albany was second and Calia Chaney (18:44.99) of Pequot Lakes was third.

Alexandria was led by senior Emma Ecker (19:15.18) in 13th place.  Jaelyn Miller (19:36.17) was 22nd, Aleah Miller (19:42.38) 26th, Brynn Kosters (20:12.83) 42nd, Giselle Jahner (20:38.18) 61st, Brynn Cross (21:28.52) 100th and Amanda Bergerson (21:42.31) 107th.
