The Breckenridge Cowgirls (28-2) captured the Section 6A North Sub-Section title on Thursday night and advanced to the Section 6A championship match against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa with an exhilarating 3-2 (17-25, 34-32, 21-25, 25-18, 15-5) victory over the Henning Hornets at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium in Fergus Falls.
Abby Johnson and Camryn Kaehler led the Cowgirls attack with 23 and 20 kills, respectively. Riley Finkral was tremendous in the back row with several impressive digs from her Libero position, ending up with 43 on the night. Other dig leaders were Kaehler with 30, Johnson with 19 and Carcie Materi with 14. Materi (29) and Sophie Larson (27) contributed 56 set assists. Ana Erickson led the team with 4 block assists, while Lauren Beyer and Tori Undem contributed 3 apiece. Addie Twidwell chipped in with 2 block assists and 8 kills. Finkral had 3 ace serves and Johnson added two.
Henning had three players with double digit kills, led by Ally Hart with 16. Grace Hammer and Emma Severson had 11 kills apiece. Gretchen Eckhoff served up 4 aces for the Hornets.
