Guler Leads Vikings Past Hawley in 8AA Semifinals

Timmy Guler ran for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns and passed for 102 yards and one TD, leading the Pelican Rapids Vikings to a 24-13 victory over the Hawley Nuggets in the Section 8AA semifinals on Friday night.  The second-seeded Vikings advance to play top-seeded Barnesville at eight o’clock Friday night at the Fargodome for the section title.

Guler’s first touchdown of the day came on a 6 yard run with 8:45 left in the first quarter.  TD number two was a 27 yard run with 5:40 left in the first half.  With 1:27 remaining before halftime Guler completed an 18 yard pass to Hunter Williams, making the halftime score 18-0.  The Vikings were 0-for-3 on two point conversion tries.

In the third quarter Carson Brew hit Ethan Magnussen with a 13 yard touchdown pass and Samuel Burkel booted the extra point, making the score 18-7 in favor of Pelican Rapids.

The Vikings got the touchdown back with 9:45 to go in the game when Guler ran in from 15 yards out for a 24-7 lead.  Burkel completed the scoring on the night with a 2 yard run, resulting in a 24-13 loss for Hawley.

Pelican Rapids had 283 yards (102 passing, 181 rushing) of total offense.  Guler completed 8-of-10 passes and Carter Johnson was the leading receiver with 54 yards on 4 receptions.  Hunter Williams had a sack on defense.

Hawley finished with 194 rushing yards and 67 passing yards for a total of 261 yards on the day.  Brew was 5-for-10 throwing the football for 67 yards.  Five different players caught a pass with Burkel leading them with 37 yards.  Derek Tibbetts led the ground attack with 84 yards on 13 carries and Burkel finished with 18 attempts for 67 yards.  Defensive leaders were Brady Gratton (Interception, 4 tackles) and Tibbets (7 solo tackles).
