Tolifson Throws Six TD Passes to Lead Warriors Past Comets

Quarterback Marshall Tolifson completed 22-of-25 passes for 263 yards and six touchdowns on Saturday afternoon as he led the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors to a 58-6 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in a Section 4 9-Man semifinal contest in Wheaton.  The Warriors finished with a total of 401 yards against the Comets. 

Tolifson hooked up with Clint Determan on a 52 yard touchdown with 3:41 left in the first quarter to give the Warriors a 6-0 advantage.

A 26 point second quarter made it 32-0 at the half.  Tolifson hit Bryant Callemius with a pair of TD passes in the quarter, one from 18 yards and another from 10 yards out.  Determan booted the extra point kick after the second score and it was 19-0 with 5:41 left in the half.  A 6-yard TD pass from Tolifson to Determan and another Determan PAT kick made it 26-0.  Tolifson scored the final touchdown of the half on a 4 yard run.

A Hunter Blume interception return with 10:56 left in the third quarter, followed by a Determan extra point kick gave the Warriors a 39-0 lead.  Tolifson hit Callenius for a 19 yard TD with 9:07 left and Determan added the PAT kick putting the score at 46-0.  Determan then hauled in a 10 yard scoring toss from Tolifson for a 52-0 lead.  Drake Berning’s 1 yard TD run completed the third quarter scoring with Wheaton/Herman-Norcross ahead 58-0.

Evan Lindgren ran the ball into the end zone from 8 yards out with 9:35 left in the game for the Comets only TD and a 58-6 final score.

Determan had 4 catches for 110 yards, Callenius caught 5 passes for 58 yards and Hunter Blume had 4 receptions for 57 yards.  The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross defense recorded five sacks on Hillcrest quarterback Caden Fischer and they also had 5 interceptions in the contest.

Hillcrest finished with 134 passing yards and 63 rushing yards for a total of 197 yards of offense.  Lindgren led the rushing attack with 50 yards on 12 carries.  Fischer completed 10-of-23 passes, but threw 3 interceptions.  Joel Bowman had 3 receptions for 75 yards, Cole Peterson caught 4 passes for 35 yards and Lindgren had 3 catches for 24 yards.

Defensive leaders for Hillcrest were Leo Nordick (8 tackles, 3 assisted tackles), Zayne Weinrich (8 tackles, 3 assisted tackles), Gavin Knutson (8 tackles, 1 assisted tackle) and Micah Bermel (7 tackles, 3 assisted tackles, 2 QB sacks).

The Warriors are now 8-2.  They will square off with Verndale on Friday at 10:00am in the Fargodome to decide the Section 4 9-Man championship.  Verndale advanced with a 48-6 win over Brandon-Evansville on Saturday.
