What a great day in Bagley, MN today at the Twin Pines Golf Course. The Perham Girls & Boys are headed back to St. Olaf for the State Cross Country Meet next weekend in Northfield. The girls made it their 19th straight state meet appearance & the boys their 20th. Both teams will have an opportunity to defend and win a 4th straight STATE TITLE. Last year the MSHSL did not have a state meet but the boys and girls won state in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The girls started off the day with a great race against a very good Hawley team that is ranked #4 in the state while our girls are ranked #2. The meet really came down to a race up front between us and Hawley and then the individual qualifiers. Gracie Morris led the way with a runner up finish to the number 1 ranked runner in the state Jade Rypkema. Grace was just 25 seconds back which is the closest she has been this year. The Perham strength was in their pack running today as Leelou Novotny, Qunicy Anderson, and Liz Birkeland ran great races finishing 6,7, & 8. Our Top 4 girls are really tough and have been working out so well. It is just so fun to see them realizing that they can run faster and you can tell the best is yet to come. First year varsity runner Avalee Brown also posted a top 15 finish finishing 12th and Kaia Starzl was 17th. Mia Lung rounded out the top 7 and finished 35th overall. Quincy Anderson and Liz Birkeland earned Academic All State Honors. Our girls team GPA was a 4.0.

The boys rounded off the day with a fantastic showing. The boys were led by Individual Section Champ Jakob McCleary winning by 50 seconds. The big surprise of the day was Caden Doll who was the Section runner up. Caden has made huge improvements in every meet and his confidence is at a place where he knows he can compete at the front of the pack in every race now. Bjorn Anderson and Micah Thompson both ran tough as our 3rd and 4th. Bjorn posted a top 10 finish in the section finishing 7th overall while Micah was 11th. Another huge break out race was Carter Flatau who made up his mind today to close the gap to Micah and Bjorn. This was definitely Carter's strongest race of the season. He has looked so strong in workouts so we knew if he could just stay in touch with our top 4 he would break through and today was the day. Brayden Glorvigen also had a big race today going under 18 min again as our 6th runner. Blake Swenson rounded out the Top 7, but suffered a side stitch with a mile to go. Blake did amazing toughing it out, but it was definitely a bummer because at 2 miles he was on pace for his best race, but he will definitely rebound awesome next week at State. Caden Doll and Micah Thompson also earned Academic All-State honors for the boys and our team GPA was 3.954.

Next week our boys and girls will compete at St. Olaf for their 4th straight State Titles!!! The boys run at 12:00 pm and the girls at 1:00 pm while the awards will take place at 1:45 pm!
