The Perham defense held Park Rapids Area to just 75 total yards on Tuesday night as the third-seeded Yellowjackets advanced to the Section 8AAA semifinals with a 28-0 win over the Panthers. Perham compiled 304 (289 rushing, 31 passing) total yards on the night.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Perham quarterback Colton Hackel scored on a six yard run with 4:17 left in the half. Hackel’s extra-point kick made it 7-0 at the half.
With just 1:57 left in the third quarter, Hudson Hackel’s 1 yard run increased the Perham lead to 13-0.
Colton Hackel added an 8 yard touchdown run with 11:08 remaining in the game. He also added the PAT kick for a 20-0 lead. Braylon Rach’s 12 yard touchdown run with 8 minutes left closed out the scoring in the game. Hackel tacked on a two-point conversion run for the 28-0 final.
The Perham defense recorded four sacks in the game with Ben Shumansky, Gordon Lee Enyart-Martinez, Jacob Daniels and Braylon Rach registered sacks with Shumansky and Levi Richter coming up with interceptions. Enyart-Martinez also forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery while recording 8 tackles. Shumansky had 9 tackles to top the defensive chart.
Colton Hackel led the offensive effort by running for 171 yards on 26 carries. He also caught a pass from Josh Peterson for 24 yards. Chas Melvin added 42 yards on 8 rushing attempts and Rach had 39 yards on 7 carries.
Perham will travel to Fergus Falls to face the second-seeded Otters at 6:00pm Saturday night.
