Fergus Falls hosted Roseau in the quarterfinal round of the Section 8AAA football playoffs on Tuesday night with the Otters taking a 14-0 halftime lead on the way to a 28-6 win. Fergus Falls will advance to the Section semifinals on Saturday at 6:00pm at the Otter Stadium Field against the Perham Yellowjackets.
Cole Wentworth got the Otters on the board with a first quarter touchdown run of 3 yards. A Jaydon Manteufel extra point kick put the score at 7-0. In the second quarter Carter Thielke connected with Cole Zierden on a 14 yard pass and Manteufel made it 14-0 with his second PAT kick of the night.
On their first possession of the third quarter the Otters increased their lead to 21-0 on a 2 yard run by Landon Thacker and another extra point by Manteufel. A blocked punt led to a 14 yard TD pass from Thielke to Luke Newman, followed by Manteufel’s fourth PAT kick and a 28-0 Fergus Falls lead.
Roseau got their only touchdown of the night on a 22 yard hook-and-ladder play in the fourth quarter to put the final score at 28-6.
Thielke completed 4-of-7 passes for 81 yards and the Otters had 164 rushing yards in the game.
Roseau had 134 total yards on 81 yards rushing and 53 passing yards.
