The Battle Lake volleyball team defeated the Rothsay Tigers in the first round of Section 6A playoffs Monday night 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-14, 25-21).

“The Tigers came out ready to play and took an early lead in set 1,” reported Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “It took the Battlers awhile to find our rhythm but the girls were able to take set 1.  Set 2 went back and forth with the Battlers having a set point at 24-23, but Rothsay kept fighting to square the match at a set apiece.  The Battlers took early leads in sets 3 and 4 and were able to take the match.  It might not have been the cleanest match but it is nice to take a win in the postseason.”

Grace VanErp had a solid night for the Battlers with 16 kills, 10 digs, and was 20/22 serving with 8 aces. Ady Tysdal added 6 kills and Kenady Cameron added 4 kills.  Sophie Akerman dished out 27 assists and had 10 digs.  Quinn Amundson added 6 digs and Kaitlyn Brandner had 5 digs.

The Battlers head to Henning Wednesday for the next round of playoffs.
