Cameron Heng had another big night running the football for the Barnesville Trojans on Wednesday as they defeated the Hawley Nuggets by the score of 28-12.  Heng ran for 174 yards on 24 carries and scored one touchdown.  Barnesville had 241 rushing yards and 414 total yards (173 passing) in the game.  Hawley was held to just 119 yards of offense.

Hawley got on the board first when Samuel Burkel ran the ball in from 3 yards out with 6:54 to go in the first quarter.  The Trojans pulled even on a 41 yard TD pass from Noah Krause to Braeden Bredman.

Barnesville took a 20-6 halftime lead with a pair of second quarter TD’s, the first on a one yard run by Krause, followed by a two-point conversion run by Bredman, and the second on a 5 yard TD run by Heng with 1:31 remaining in the half.

A 25 yard TD pass from Krause to Kaden Zenzen in the middle of the third quarter increased the Barnesville lead to 28-6 after a two-point conversion run by Bredman.

Hawley completed the scoring with a 61 yard touchdown pass from Carson Brew to Joey Aakre.

Krause was 6-for-11 throwing the ball for 173 yards.  Bredman caught 3 passes for 96 yards and Zenzen had two receptions for 57 yards.  Krause (4 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, fumble recovery) and Zenzen (4 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, sack) were the defensive leaders.  Owen Riddle picked off a pass for the Trojans.

“Getting a bit tired of playing in rain and slop, but that is what it was to start this game on Friday,” commented Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “Granted both teams have to play in it, but man it stinks.  I felt we made a few mistakes early on that could have been very costly. We fumbled on the first play of game, but held them and got the ball back, but had to punt. We had a bad snap and poor blocking up front so that combination made our punter take off and we wound up giving them the ball on about the 5 yard line.  We did get the ball back and make a very nice drive all the way down the field to tie it up.  It was 20-6 at half and I felt we weren't playing that well offensively.  Not that it was bad but we could be better, and they do have a very good defense which we knew coming in.  After half we came out and fumbled the opening kickoff giving them great field position, but the defense held and then we got the ball back and drove the field making it 28-6.   We were without starting DE Logan Yeske, starting corner Aaron Baker and still without Spencer Schumacher and Ethan Larson who should be coming back by next weekend for our first playoff game.  Jonny Robideau sprained his ankle on the first offensive play and was limited on what he could do.  He will be questionable for next weekend's game as of right now.  I feel we are playing well right now and we have a week here to strengthen up some things that we are doing wrong and get ready for either Crookston or Warroad, two teams we are very familiar with.”
