Lady Spartans Fall to Raiders in 4 Sets

M State traveled to Brainerd on Wednesday night to face Central Lakes Community College in a volleyball match.  The Raiders won the opening set 25-21, but M State bounced back with a 25-21 win in set two.  A 25-22 third set win for Central Lakes was followed by a tight 28-26 win in the fourth set for the home team and a 3-1 victory for the Raiders. 

Anya Maack led the attack with 8 kills and 6 blocks, while Brooke Hovland and Emily Condon added 5 kills each.  Setter Kaia Strom had 19 set assists, 5 kills, 2 blocks and 14 digs.  Bailey Marty led the defense with 28 digs, Condon contributed 14 and Jayna Gronewold had 12.

M State served just 86.3% on the night and recorded 11 aces.  Leaders were Marty (16/16, 3 aces), Condon (19/20, 1 ace), Avery Wanner (11/13, 1 ace), Gronewold (13/16, 1 ace), Strom (14/19, 3 aces) and Alaina Anderson (9/11, 2 aces).

M State (15-5) will be in Austin on Friday night to face Riverland Community College and will play Minnesota West in Worthington on Saturday afternoon in their final regular season contest.  If they win both matches the lady Spartans will host the Region XIII Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
