The Underwood volleyball team swept Battle Lake 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 to finish an unbeaten Little Eight Conference season.

“It was an emotional night in Battle Lake tonight,” said Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “Fans from both Battle Lake and Underwood were dressed in purple to support the Battle Lake community and the Himmelspach family as David passed last night.  He was a teacher in Battle Lake, and several of our Underwood athletes also had the privilege of having him for a coach for OTC Track.  Both teams played tough and we were lucky enough to come out on top tonight.  I am proud of all the girls and how well they were able to play.”

Leaders for Underwood were Ezrah Baker (12 kills, 10/11 serving, 10 digs), Elizabeth Lukken (10 kills, 12/12 serving, 1 ace, 14 digs), Alayna Evavold (6 kills, 11/13 serving, 2 aces), Chloe Mark (6 kills), Jorja Gabrielson (6 kills, 6 digs), Kallyn Grove (36 set assists, 18/18 serving, 1 ace), Becca Johnson (12 digs), Brianna Evavold (9 digs) and Brooke Christianson (9/9 serving).

Battle Lakes was led by Grace VanErp (19 kills, 12 digs), Ady Tystal (10/10 serving, 15 digs), Sophie Akerman (26 assists, 11 digs) and Kayler Brandner (12 digs, 16/17 serving).

“Overall, I am very proud of how the girls’ played tonight,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “It has been a rough day with the recent loss of a school staff member.  The amazing volleyball community came together again tonight and raised over $3000 for the family.  Thank you again for the support and generosity of our fans.”

Underwood plays in their last tournament of the season at home on Thursday.  The Rockets will open with New York Mills.
