The West Central Area volleyball team ended their regular season with a hard fought five set loss to the Hancock Owls on Tuesday night, losing the first two sets, 25-14, 25-11, winning sets three and four 25-15, 25-20 and falling in set five 15-9.

“The Knights started off with a tough couple of sets where a lot didn’t go right,” commented Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “We played very scattered and just couldn’t get in sync.  The team was disappointed in their play, and turned things around game three and four. The team got on a roll serving well. Elizabeth Rustan served aggressively to tally 6 aces and Mya Foslien had four. Mya Foslien and Whitney Westrom really did an amazing job in set four being aggressive at the net.  Macy Grosz did a great job of mixing up the offense to avoid the block when she could and had a nice night on defense as well.  Game five just got away from the Knights early, and being down 3-10, both timeouts were used early but the Knights battled back to make it 9-11 before the Owls scored four straight to finish the set.”

Stat leaders for WCA were Grosz (21/21 serving, 1 ace, 35 set assists, 23 digs), Rustan (19/220 serving, 6 aces, 11 digs, 12 kills, 1 block), Mya Foslien (12/13 serving, 4 aces, 21 digs, 15 kills, 1 block), Kaitlyn Hansen (18 digs), Madelyn Westrom (15 digs), Whitney Westrom (9/11 serving, 2 aces, 6 kills), Halle Foslien (10/10 serving, 3 kills) and Addison Staples (7/8 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills).

Playoffs start Friday, October 29.
