The Hillcrest volleyball team hosted the Hancock Owls on Monday night with the Owls winning in four sets, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23.

“Tonight we had the opportunity to recognize our seniors and also held our “Block Out Cancer” awareness night at our final home game of the season,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “Congrats to our seniors Bri Lang, Diamond Twedt, Caitlyn Maggert, Natalie Zwiers, and Abby Heikes who unfortunately was not able to play tonight due to an injury during warm ups.”

Leaders for the Comets were Madi Foss (6 ace serves, 14 serving points, 11 kills, 11 set assists, 18 digs, 1 block kill), Henrietta Ruud (2 ace serves, 6 serving points, 16 set assists, 7 digs), Natalie Zwiers (5 kills), Madison Ballweg (12 digs), Emily Adams (5 kills, 15 digs, 1 block kill), Hope Adams (10 kills, 2 set assists, 2 block kills), Ella Knutson (17/17 serving, 8 serving points, 1 ace serve, 3 kills, 15 digs) and Ruby Peterson (2 serving points, 1 dig).

“It was a competitive match with some longer volleys, great plays and defensive saves,” said Coach Foss. “Tonight I thought we did a good job of learning on the fly and adjusting throughout the match. The Hancock Owls had some strong net play, “tooled” the block well, and also moved around their offense to get away from our defense. We have much we can still learn from this match. Serving just 89% impacted us some as well as our hitting errors. We still need to increase our overall hitting efficiency and kill percentage.”

The Comets have our last conference match-up Tuesday night in Ashby.  They will conclude their regular season Thursday by participating in the Blocktoberfest Tournament at Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls.
