Sometimes after a long bus ride it can take football players a while to get their legs under them.  That wasn’t the case for the Pelican Rapids Vikings on Friday night.  After their long trek to Roseau, the Vikings came out and scored 24 first quarter points, led 36-0 at the half and finished with a 44-0 victory over the Rams.

Carter Johnson got things started with a 4 yard TD run with 7:11 to play in the opening quarter.  He also scored the two-point conversion run to make it an early 8-0 lead for the visitors.  Next it was Timmy Guler’s turn as the quarterback scored on a 1 yard run and brought home the two-point run as well, making it 16-0 with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter.  With just 46 seconds on the clock. Guler and Johnson combined on a 31 yard TD pass and Johnson again scored the two-point conversion for a 24-0 lead.

In the second quarter Guler connected with Hunter Williams for a 21 yard touchdown and Johnson scored on a 2 yard run as the Vikings entered halftime with a 36-0 lead.  Another Johnson TD in the third quarter completed the scoring.

Pelican Rapids had 297 (129 passing, 168 rushing) total yards in the contest.  Johnson ran for 95 yards on 15 attempts.  Guler completed 7-of-16 passes for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  He also had 17 carries for 56 yards.  Johnson (2 receptions, 40 yards, TD), Williams (2 receptions, 39 yards, TD) and Luke Sjolie (2 receptions, 27 yards) were the leading receivers for Pelican Rapids.  Jack Kapenga led the defensive effort with 5 solo tackles and an interception.  Johnson also had a pick, while Kapenga and Hayden Hart combined on a sack.

Pelican Rapids will host Breckenridge at 7:00pm Wednesday at Chauncey Martin Field.
