The Barnesville Trojans improved their record to 5-2 with their third straight win on Friday night, a 42-7 home field victory over the Staples-Motley Cardinals.

“We came out did what we needed to do and got our kids the rest they needed and every kid saw the field,” reported Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “We played our starters about to the mid-point of the 3rd quarter and then it was all subs and they all played very well.   We had 17 different kids carry the ball, so lots of kids got into the action.”

Barnesville scored a 22 yard touchdown on their first play from scrimmage when Noah Krause connected with Kaden Zenzen.  A 3 yard TD run and conversion run by Krause gave the Trojans a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

“We came out with the idea of working on our passing game as well as running a ton of our Wing T offense,” noted Coach Strand.  “We scored on our first play, but we had some miscues handling punts and actually turned it over twice in the first half, none of which resulted in points for Staples.”

In the second quarter Braeden Bredman scored on a 15 yard run and Krause hit Tate Inniger with the two point conversion pass to increase the Trojans lead to 22-0.  They made in 29-0 on a Krause to Inniger 5 yard TD pass and an extra point kick by Isaac Maneval.

Bredman scored a third quarter TD on a 7 yard run and Peyton Pauna ran the ball in form 12 yards out, followed by a Maneval kick to put the Trojans up 42-0 after three quarters.

“Going into the fourth quarter Staples had 16 yards of offense, and ended the game with 112 yards,” added Coach Strand.  “A few miscues and them scoring on a 60 yard TD catch on the final play of the game added to this.  Our young guys kept their heads up and it is all about learning and getting better.  Braeden Bredman had his best game running the ball carrying 9 times for 103 yards and 2 rushing TD's.”

Cameron Heng ran for 84 yards on 6 attempts and Krause completed 5-of-11 passes for 93 yards.  His top receiver was Zenzen with 3 catches for 58 yards.  Defensive leaders were Zenzen with 2 sacks, 2 solo tackles and 6 assisted tackles, Justin Krueger with 1 sack and Jonny Robideau with 3 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles.

“I felt we did what we had to do and got out of there healthy, looked sloppy at times and others crisp and hard,” concluded Coach Strand. “We now prep for Hawley which should be a great game, they are playing well and have one of the best defenses in the area.”
