Chargers Defeat Comets in 4 Sets

By Craig Olson, 10/14/21, 11:15PM CDT

Brandon-Evansville paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Thursday night where they faced Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match which the Chargers won 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19).

“While we fought hard and passed well in the opening set, a couple miscues took us out of the set late and we found ourselves down 0-1,” reported B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson. “Our passing continued to be a driving force in our game play success in the second set and once again it was a back and forth battle. This time our aggressive serves and ability to execute in system on serve receive gave us the edge and we were able to tie it up after two. We used this winning momentum to carry us into an early lead in the third set and continued to serve aggressively with many of our girls logging several aces on the night. Defense also played a big part in our match win this evening.”

Hillcrest was led by Madi Foss (12 kills, 27 digs, 1 block kill), Henrietta Ruud (45 set assists, 10 digs, 10 serving points), Madison Ballweg (17 digs), Ruby Peterson (4 serving points, 10 digs), Abby Heikes (5 kills, 2 ace serves, 6 serving points, 12 digs, 2 block kills), Hope Adams (2 ace serves, 8 serving points, 13 kills), Ella Knutson (14/14 serving, 4 serving points, 13 kills, 15 digs, 1 block kill) and Natalie Zwiers (4 kills, 1 dig).

“Every set we played tonight we believed we could have won,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “Even with two injured starters we were still very competitive on and off the net. We attacked the ball a ton tonight. Sometimes we were effective and sometimes we were not. We need to continue working on not giving away points and playing more disciplined. I continue to be encouraged with the way the girls are playing and with the progress we are making. We will host Hancock on Monday for our final home game of the season.  We will honor our seniors and also host a Cancer Awareness night.”

The Chargers will close out their regular season Tuesday as they travel to Parkers Prairie to square off against the Panthers.
