West Central Area swept Swanville 26-24, 25-15, 25-16 in their final home game of the season on Thursday night.  “It was an emotional one right from the start, as we paid tribute to our seniors and parents,” reported WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “Then in warm ups Elizabeth Rustan went down with a sprained ankle, so a quick lineup change was necessary as we didn’t know if she would be able to return to play.”

So the Knights started off a little rocky, keeping set one very close, even being down for most of it.  The Knights were happy to see Rustan come back in the game at 21-21 and she delivered a monster kill, which gave the Knights their confidence back.  The Bulldogs kept fighting but eventually the Knights prevailed 26-24.  In sets two and three Halle Foslien and Whitney Westrom served very well.  Sophomore Alaina Sykora came in for Rustan in the back row and also served very well.

The Knights were led by Halle Foslien (17/17 serving, 5 aces, 5 digs, 5 kills, 1 block), Mya Foslien (7/7 serving, 11 kills, 1 block, 9 digs), Whitney Westrom (16/17 serving, 2 aces, 15 digs, 6 kills), Macy Grosz (11/11 serving, 26 set assists, 15 digs), Sykora (8/9 serving, 1 ace, 3 digs), Kaitlyn Hansen (15 digs), Madelyn Westrom (8 digs) and Addison Staples (4 kills).

“We have also been without freshman defensive specialist, Sophie Sanstead, as she dislocated her shoulder on Monday so we have moved up some of our JV girls and they have done a great job,” noted Coach Foslien.  “Eighth grader Izzy Puchalski came in and had 4 kills in the third set.  We have to get these girls some experience, they have some big shoes to fill for next year, but we want our players healthy and ready to play as we close our season and enter the playoffs!”

The Knights finished the last two sets 25-15, 25-16. WCA (21-5) travels to Hancock next Tuesday for the last regular season game.
