The Benson/KMS Cross Country Invitational was held on Thursday with Lac Qui Parle Valley winning the boys’ team title with 49 points and Sauk Centre finishing second with 60.  The girls’ meet was won by Minnewaska Area with 42 points.  Wadena-Deer Creek was second with 50 points.

“The meet was held in Kerkhoven, a new course for everyone,” noted Border West Head Coach Brittany Erickson.  “It was about 285 meters more than a 5K.  With the cooler weather and flat course, we were hoping to see some fast times, but I felt like our runners struggled to get out of the box, and then they got bottlenecked and stuck behind the pack.  Our mile splits were slower than usual and when they realized that, it was hard to make up the time. Not the way we wanted to end the season, but it definitely puts a fire in us for the conference meet next Tuesday.”
