The Alexandria Cardinal Boys Soccer team traveled to the northern terrain of Bemidji Saturday afternoon to finish out the regular season against the Lumberjacks. The season end brings on a tough battle for the Cardinals as the injuries and fatigue are setting in, however, in yet another overtime contest, Alexandria was able to record a 2-1 victory.

As the rain came down in the first half, the two teams found a good rhythm controlling the ball and moving through the field well. The Cardinals found the first goal in the 16th minute of play when Otto Anderson was able to finish a goal with the assist coming from Myles Sansted. The Jacks were able to find a goal in the 36th minute of play. This ended the half at 1-1.

The second half remained a challenge for the Cardinals as injuries during the match left the team with few reserve players left to finish out the match. This was pushing the team to play with longer than usual stamina and remain in the match. The Cards were able to keep the Jacks form scoring as Goalkeeper Grayson Grove had several great saves during the match. Although the Jacks didn't score, neither did the Cardinals ending the match at 1-1.

The match play continued to be balanced and the final goal came from Myles Sansted in the 84th minute of play. The Cardinals kept a strong defensive hold on the Jacks to put the final score at 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals.

Gatorade of the Game went to Captain Colin Reilly for maintaining a positive focus and serving the team in various roles throughout the match.

The Cardinal Boys Soccer team ends their regular season play at 12-1-3. We look forward to the postseason beginning this Thursday, where the likely #1 seed Cardinals will host Little Falls for a 7pm kick to start the Section 8AA playoffs.
