Guler Sparks Vikings Win Over Park Rapids

Timmy Guler ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for two more to lead the Pelican Rapids Vikings to a 38-14 win over Park Rapids Area on Friday night.  The two teams combined for 696 total yards in the game with the Vikings compiling 346 (183 rushing, 163 passing) and the Panthers 350 (3324 passing, 26 rushing).

 

Guler started the scoring with a 30 yard TD run with 9:02 to play in the first quarter.  His two-point conversion run gave the Vikings an early 8-0 lead.  Guler’s 2-yard run with 4:51 remaining and a second conversion run for the Pelican Rapids quarterback, put the score at 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Guler hit Peyton Blakeway for a 17 yard touchdown pass with just fifteen seconds left in the half and his third two-point conversion run gave the Vikings a 24-0 halftime lead.

Noah Morris started Park Rapids on the comeback trail when he completed a 5 yard TD pass to Jaxson Lund midway through the third quarter.  A two-point conversion run by Tristan Hill cut the lead to 24-8.  With 1:22 left in the third Carter Johnson picked off a Morris pass and returned it for a score, increasing the Vikings lead to 30-8 heading to the fourth quarter.

Morris completed a 74 yard TD pass to Nick Michaelson with 8:19 to play in the game to put the score at 30-14 and Guler connected with Blakeway for a second time, this time from 35 yards out.  Guler’s two-point conversion run made the final score 38-14.

Guler completed 12-of-21 passes for 163 yards and ran for 146 yards on 23 attempts.  Blakeway was his leading receiver with 6 catches for 79 yards.  Hunter Williams caught 3 balls for 35 yards.  Defensive leaders were Tristan Landberg (7 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles) and Williams (4 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, 1 sack).  Justin Jacobson, Luke Sjolie and Kaden Holt each recorded a quarterback sack.

Morris was 14-for-26 throwing the football for 324 yards.  Michaelson hauled in 7 of the passes for 199 yards and Hill led the rushing attack with 35 yards on 17 carries.

Pelican Rapids (4-2) will travel to Roseau on Friday.
