Knights Remain Unbeaten with Win at Breckenridge

West Central Area/Ashby opened up a 36-8 halftime lead on the way to a 42-27 win at Breckenridge on Friday night.  The Knights compiled 353 yards of total offense with 218 coming by pass and 135 by run.  Breckenridge had 229 yards (187 rushing, 42 passing).

The Knights scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns, the first on an 80 yard run by Anthony Sykora, followed by a two-point conversion pass from Evan Paulson to Mattson Hoff, and the second on an interception return by Hunter Norby.  Paulson hit Cole Anderson for the two-point conversion, making it 16-0 after one quarter of play.

Breckenridge got on the board early in the second quarter on a 12 yard run by Cameron Nieto and a two-point conversion run by Nieto.  WCA/Ashby answered with a 20 yard scoring toss from Paulson to Anderson to put the score at 22-8.  Paulson then hooked up with Norby on a 36 yard TD pass for a 28-8 lead.  The final touchdown of the first half came on another Paulson to Norby connection, this one covering 30 yards.  Sykora’s two-point conversion run put the halftime score at 36-8, West Central Area/Ashby.

The Cowboys pulled to within 36-15 on a 16 yard pass from Collin Roberts to Gavin Pederson and an extra-point kick by Bailey Evans.

The Knights took the lead up to 42-15 on a fourth quarter touchdown run by Sykora from the 2 yard line.  Breckenridge concluded the scoring with a 9 yard touchdown run by Dylan Bernotas and a 3 yard TD run by Gavin Pederson, to make the final score 42-27, Knights.

Paulson completed 8-of-18 passes for 178 yards and 3 TD’s.  Sykora ran for 129 yards on 12 carries and scored twice.  Norby (3 receptions, 78 yards, 2 TD’s) and Anderson (2 receptions, 60 yards, TD) were the receiving leaders for the Knights.  Hoff led the defense with 5 solo tackles and one assisted tackle.  He also had an interception.  Norby had two picks and recorded 4 solo tackles and a pair of assisted tackles.

For Breckenridge, Roberts was 5-for-13 throwing the football for 43 yards and a TD.  Nieto was the Cowboys top rusher with 16 carries for 68 yards and a score.  Pederson caught 3 passes for 28 yards to lead the receiving corps.

The Knights (6-0) will travel to Osakis on Friday night to play the 5-1 Silverstreaks.

Breckenridge (4-2) had their four game winning streak snapped with the loss.  They will host Hawley (3-3) on Friday night.
