Otters Trounce Roseau 56-12 for Homecoming Victory

Kicker Jaydon Manteufel made all 8 of his extra-point kicks and put six of his nine kick-offs into the end zone for touchbacks on Friday night as the Fergus Falls football team won their homecoming game against the Roseau Rams, 56-12.

The Otters scored 4 first quarter touchdowns to open up a sizable 28-0 lead after one.  Carter Thielke scored on a 3 yard run and following a Cole Wentworth interception, Thielke carried the ball over the goal line from 8 yards out.  Wentworth then recovered a fumble which led to an 11 yard TD run by Griffin BabolianJosh Sternberg came up with an interception, returning in for the final TD of the quarter.

The second quarter was scoreless, but the third quarter featured 33 points.  The Otters got the second half scoring started with a nice 65-yard drive which was capped by an 11 yard pass from Thielke to Andrew Johnson, putting the Otters lead at 35-0.  Roseau responded with an 8 yard scoring toss from Christian Larson to Alex Wensloff.  On the ensuing kick-off Johnson went 70 yards for an Otter TD and the home team led 42-6.  The Rams started their next drive on their own 45 yard line and on the first play from scrimmage Larson connected with Braxton Spilde on a 55 yard TD pass, making the score 42-12.  A 10 yard run by Babolian ended the third quarter scoring with the Otters in control at 49-12.

A Nathan Brock interception setup the Otters for their final touchdown, a 3 yard run by Eli Draeger.

Fergus Falls ran for 153 yards on 32 carries and had 92 passing yards, giving them 245 total yards in the game.  Johnson led the rushing attack with 41 yards on 6 carries and Babolian had 31 yards on 5 carries.  Thielke completed 7-of-8 passes for 84 yards.  Cole Zierden caught three passes for 37 yards and Babolian had 2 receptions for 26 yards.

Roseau finished with 224 (166 passing, 58 rushing) total yards.  Larson completed 11-of-17 passes for 166 yards and a pair of TD’s.

Fergus Falls has a road game against undefeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton next Friday night.
