The Ashby volleyball team hosted Battle Lake in a Little Eight Conference match on Tuesday night and the Battlers registered a hard fought 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 15-10) victory over the Arrows.

“Ashby came out strong and played a very consistent match tonight,” stated Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “They stuck to their game plan while we struggled to find rhythm.  We dug ourselves into a hole and then had to work extra hard to get out.  It was not a clean match for the Battlers, but it was good to finally take the fifth set.”

Grace VanErp led the Battlers with 23 kills and 11 digs.  Ady Tysdal added 9 kills and 9 digs.  Sophie Akerman dished out 33 assists and had 12 digs.  Kayler Brandner added 14 digs, while Quinn Amundson was solid with 4 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks.

“This was a night of leaving it all on the court,” said Ashby Head Coach Hayley Stevens. “I'm so proud of the girls and their hard work and team togetherness tonight. Each set was so close and one serve or pass finalized each and we never let up. There was so much scrappiness on each side and some of the volleys seemed to last forever. We have a few days to catch our breath, and practice, until Saturday when we head to Fergus and match up with Hillcrest for another LEC match.”

Leaders for Ashby were Celi Nelson (29/29 serving, 4 aces, 11 kills, 18 digs), Kyra Aamot (14/16 serving, 20 digs), Catherine Koefod (8/9 serving, 1 ace, 32 assists, 16 digs), Kaylee Schlundt (13/13 serving, 2 aces, 3 kills, 3 assists, 4 digs), Ryleigh Brendmoen (26/28 serving, 6 aces, 17 kills, 34 digs), Livy Johnson (5/7 serving, 1 ace, 8 kills, 8 digs), BrookeLinn Finkelson (3 kills, 5 digs), Alyssa Johnson (3 digs) and Lucy Ohren (8 digs).  The Arrows served 93% as a team.
