The Underwood Rockets paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Tuesday night for a Little Eight Conference volleyball matchup with the Hillcrest Comets.  The Rockets left with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-18) victory over the Comets.

“After a late night of volleyball last night, our team came prepared to play against an energized and impressive crowd at Hillcrest,” stated Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove. “We knew the Comets would play hard for every point so our goal was to answer back and play without getting rattled.  Both teams played well and we were happy to come out on top tonight.”

Kallyn Grove dished out 22 set assists on the night and had a perfect 11-for-11 serving night with 3 aces.  She also contributed 4 kills.  Kill leaders were Ezrah Baker with 10, Elizabeth Lukken with 8 and Chloe Mark with 6.  Alayna Evavold was 17-for-19 serving with 5 aces, Brooke Christianson was 14-for-15 on the serving line with an ace and Becca Johnson was 8-for-9 with one ace.  Baker and Grove led the defensive effort with 11 digs each.  Lukken added 9 digs and Amber Frigaard came up with 7 digs.

The Comets were led by Ella Knutson (9 kills, 9 digs, 11/11 serving), Madi Foss (4 kills, 17 digs, 7 set assists), Madison Ballweg (11 digs), Anna Brumfield (5 kills, 2 digs, 10/10 serving), Hope Adams (7 kills, 4 digs), Emily Adams (2 kills, 9 digs) and Henrietta Ruud (18 set assists, 5 digs).

“Game two of homecoming week was another exciting game,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “We hit the ball well in the first set, but missed some key serves.  We struggled in the second set with some coverage and communication errors.  We battled in the third set, but again came up short.  There were some key moments when we were finding the holes and it was great to see us attack that way.  We need to do that more consistently.”

Hillcrest will travel to Rothsay on Thursday for another conference match and Underwood will visit Brandon-Evansville in a Little Eight matchup.
