Cowgirls Remain Unbeaten, Win Barnesville Tournament Title

The Breckenridge Cowgirls won four straight matches at the Barnesville Tournament on Saturday, claiming the tournament championship on the way to an 18-0 record to start the season.

The tournament opened with a 2-0 (25-5, 25-7) win over Win-E-Mac in pool play.  Abby Johnson and Camryn Kaehler led the attack for the Cowgirls with 8 kills.  Sophie Larson and Carcie Materi distributed 15 and 8 assists, respectively.  Riley Finkral had a team high 8 digs and Kaehler added 6.  Kaehler had a team high 5 aces and Finkral contributed 3 aces.

Their second pool play match was a 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) victory over Fertile-Beltrami.  Leaders for the Cowgirls were Johnson (5 kills, 5 digs, Materi (13 set assists, 2 aces), Kaehler (10 kills, 6 digs), Finkral (15 digs, Ana Erickson (4 kills), Larson (9 set assists, 4 digs) and Tori Undem (3 kills, 2 digs).  Addie Twidwell added a solo block and a block assist.

A 2-0 (25-18, 25-18) win over New York Mills gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 record in pool play and put them into the championship game.  They were led by Johnson (8 kills, 5 digs), Materi (10 set assists), Lauren Beyer (2 kills, 3 blocks), Kaehler (7 kills, 9 digs), Finkral (13 digs), Larson (11 set assists) and Erickson (2 aces, 3 kills, 4 digs).  In this match Riley Finkral broke the school’s career dig record of 950 digs, previously held by Sophie Aigner (2016-2017).

The Cowgirls completed the tournament with a 2-0 (25-16, 25-17) win over host Barnesville.  Materi and Larson each distributed 12 set assists.  Finkral led with 19 digs.  Materi had 9 digs, Kaehler 8 digs and 9 kills, Johnson 7 digs and 7 kills, Erickson 5 kills and Undem 4 kills.
