The Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted the Sebeka Trojans in a high school volleyball match on Monday night.  The Trojans recorded a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-16) victory over the host Vikings.

“We were down a few key players and had to make some big lineup changes last minute,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “We changed our offense from a 6-2 to a 5-1 offense around senior setter Sophia Paulson.  8th grade setter Morgan Korf stepped into a defensive roll for us tonight and did a great job reading the ball and playing aggressive defense.  Korf was our dig leader tonight with 18.  Middle hitters Ellie Welch and Anna Roisum worked hard steeping into a defensive role tonight as well with both playing the back row.  These girls worked hard back there and learn a lot about how to play defense in the back row. We had some new combinations tonight and serve receive was a struggle for us all night.  Our poor serve receive did not allow us to execute our offense as well and we found ourselves giving the Trojans way to many free balls that they capitalized on very quickly. We had up and down moments tonight for sure but we struggled getting into much of a rhythm.”

The Vikings were led by Korf (18 digs, 2 set assists, 2 aces, 2 kills), Kelsey Isaman (9 digs, 3 kills), Roisum (5 kills, 3 digs), Tori Stephenson (4 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs), Welch (3 kills, 1 ace) and Paulson (4 digs, 11 set assists).
