The Breckenridge/Wahpeton Invitational Cross Country Meet (Randy Berndt Memorial) was held on Thursday with Lake Park-Audubon taking first place on the boys’ side with 32 points and Breckenridge/Wahpeton finishing second with 41 points.  The Storm won the girls’ event with 23 points and Fargo North was the runner-up team with 33 points.

“It was a gorgeous Thursday afternoon at the Boise de Sioux golf course,” reported Storm Head Coach Larry Lasch.  “In a small, but balanced, field of teams the Storm girls’ claimed first place while the boys placed second. It wasn’t the biggest meet, but Lake Park-Audubon, Hillcrest Lutheran, Tri-State, and Fargo North JV all brought some quality runners that made for a good meet.”

The BW girls placed four runners in the top 10 of the 5k race.  Kierra Wiertzema, 22:13, Rachel Gowin, 22:18, Aubrey Boesen, 23:13, and Adi Dodge, 24:18 placed 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th, respectively, while Jasmyn Benidict was 15th, 25:08, to round out the scoring for the lady Storm.  “Kierra and Rachel ran well with the leaders while Aubrey and Adi ran very well to close out the race moving up in the pack,” added Lasch.

Katie Holzner of Hillcrest was second in the race with a time of 21:14.06.  Lake Park-Audubon eighth-grader Ellen Schauer (20:47.22) won the individual race.

Aiden Ruddy, Luke Baumgardner, and Jaxon Hill placed 3rd, 5th, and 8th respectively, in 18:51, 19:21, and 20:11 to pace the boys’ team.  Jonathan Hill gutted out a 21:15 for 12th place while Bryce Awender ran his best race of the season for 13th in 21:24. “It was nice to see Bryce and Jon run closer to our top three boys,” said Lasch.  “The entire team, boys and girls, ran very competitively with kids from other schools, the past couple races we ran with our teammates, but today we were a more aggressive team.”

Tri-State sophomore Kaleb Foltz was the individual winner with a time of 17:35.34.
