After falling to a tough Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley team on Tuesday night, the Hancock Owls made a strong rebound with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) victory over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Thursday night in Hancock.

“We had a tough schedule this week,” acknowledged Head Coach Kortney Ejnik of Hancock.  “We didn’t have the opportunity to play CGB or Wheaton las season due to COVID, so we weren’t exactly sure what team we were going to be playing.  I definitely consider CGB and Wheaton to be top programs based on the last two seasons.”

Ejnik continued, “CGB played us tough and we struggled at times, but the girls kept fighting, taking one game.  Tonight against Wheaton, the girls came out with a lot of energy and kept it throughout the match.  We played tough defense and communicated well as a team.  Karleigh Rohloff and Misti Zempel have stepped into two huge positions at a young age and are doing well.  We have a strong group of seniors who contribute every game.  Carlee and Rylee Hanson continue to be leaders on the court with their consistent and tough play.”

Hancock is now 4-2 on the season.  They will play at Central Minnesota Christian on Monday and will host Ortonville on Tuesday night.

Brylie Schultz led the Warriors attack with 11 kills and went 14-for-15 on the serving line with 3 aces.  Anna Bright was a perfect 15-for-15 serving and Ellissa Rinke was 9-for-9.  Lesley Rinke and Emily Berger led the team with 8 and 7 set assists, respectively.  Defensive leaders were Berger with 13 digs, and Schultz, Ellissa Rinke and Kyah Thomas with 9 digs each.
