The Barnesville Trojans made quick work of the Frazee Hornets on Thursday night as they posted a 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-11) Heart O’ Lakes Conference victory in Barnesville.

“Fun night in our home gym with a great atmosphere from the fans and student body,” said Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “C team won 2-0, B team won 2-0 and JV won 2-0. It ws a great night of fundamental volleyball. We served the ball tough tonight and did the little things right in our offense. Our defense picked up the majority of the balls that were over on our side and attacked in our offense when we could have.”

Leaders for the Trojans were Katie Newell (26 set assists, 16/17 serving, 4 aces, 4 digs), Kenzie Skogen (15/15 serving, 2 aces), Sydney Strand (10/11 serving, 1 ace, 8 digs), Lexi Bolgrean (9/9 serving, 2 aces, 6 kills, 9 digs), Anna Stanford (8/8 serving, 1 ace, 8 kills, 6 digs) and Emily Smith (5 kills, 8/8 serving, 1 ace, 4 blocks).  Emily Bredman added 7 kills and 4 blocks and Lauren Halverson contributed 4 blocks and 2 kills.  The Trojans finished the night 72-for-74 on the serving line with 11 aces.

“Katie did a great job running our hitters and keeping our hitters spread across the net,” stated Coach Askegaard. “Our block made some adjustments and was able to successfully block the ball back on the Hornets side of the net. Our serves made some nice serving runs and pushed points when we had the ball in a scoring position. I was very pleased with how well our team cheers and supports each other. They are always encouraging their teammates and ready to get on the playing court. Tonight we had a solid night of team defense and offense.”

The Trojans head to the Twin Cities this weekend for a tournament.
