The Pelican Rapids volleyball team hosted Battle Lake on Tuesday night to start the Vikings Homecoming week.  The Vikings served well all night with a total of 15 aces in their 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-15) victory.  “We had a full gym and great energy to start off this fun week of Viking sports and our girls started strong against the Battlers,” said Head Coach Heidi Isaman.

Stat leaders for the Vikings were Ellie Welch (7 aces, 2 kills, 1 block), Kelsey Isaman (10 kills, 8 digs, 1 ace), Tori Stephenson (8 kills, 4 digs, 3 aces), Hazel Haugrud (12 digs, 3 aces), Morgan Korf (9 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills) and Sophia Paulson (12 assists, 3 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace).

“Outside hitters Kelsey Isaman and Tori Stephenson stayed very aggressive offensively in the front and back row, and our setters, Sophia Paulson and Morgan Korf did a really good job of finding them and feeding them the ball,” noted Coach Isaman.  “Sophomore Ellie Welch went on two hot serving runs throughout the night and was our ace leader.  We had a run in the second set where our communication struggled and we gave up a few unearned points to the Battlers with hitting errors and ball control errors.  We received serve quite well tonight and the girls played more aggressive volleyball as a whole.  Middle hitter Anna Roisum had some great touches to slow down their most powerful hitter and libero Hazel Haugrud read the ball very well all night long.”

The Battlers were led by Grace VanErp with 9 kills, 7 assists, and 2 aces.  Sophie Akerman dished out 10 assists and had 8 digs.  Ady Tysdal served 100% , while adding 4 kills.

“The Vikings were in control of the match from the very beginning,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “The Battlers made a small run in set 2 to put pressure on the Vikings, but  we could not overcome the Viking attack.”

The Battlers travel to Underwood Thursday night.

Pelican Rapids will travel to Hawley on Thursday for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference matchup.
