The Fergus Falls eighth grade football team traveled to Alexandria on Tuesday where the Cardinals recorded a 16-8 win in a tightly contested contest.

The score was 0-0 at the end of the first quarter, but a fumble deep in the Otter end of the field setup Alexandria for the first score.  Trailing 8-0, the Otters answered back right away with a 30 yard TD pass from Micah Johnson to Isaiah Holmes.  The score was 8-8 at halftime.  Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Alexandria came up with a few big plays in the fourth which led to a 16-8 lead.  The Otters were driving the last few minutes of the game, but a fumble recovered by Alexandria around midfield sealed the victory for the Cardinals.

“This was a game of missed opportunities for the Otters,” declared Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “Several dropped passes and missed running routes ended up costing us in the end, however, the Otters did not back down all game and gave Alex all they could handle.”

The team looks to rebound on Thursday when they play Park Rapids at 4:30pm on the grass field at Kennedy Secondary School.
