"Overall we were up and down today and struggled to keep the ball in play,” reported Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff. “But it was a fun day on an outstanding golf course and it's always a pleasure to compete against SW Tech. They didn't have their full group with them so it should be a close battle when we travel to Wisconsin in October for the National Qualifier. Hunter Burnside had a very nice day today and continues to putt the ball very well. Joel Quam hit a lot of quality shots and I thought Sam Western really hung in there in his first college competition."
Burnside led M State with a 79, followed by Quam with an 82, Grant Inniger with an 83, Western with an 89 and Mikey Vall with a 91. Jordan Caspers added a 95, golfing individually.
The Spartans will next complete at home in the Spartan Invitational on Sunday, September 19 and Monday, September 20 at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls.
