The Wadena-Deer Creek Cross Country teams hosted the Johanna Olson Invite on Tuesday.  The Wolverines won the girls’ competition with 61 points.  Little Falls was second with 67, followed by United North Central, Pillager, Border West and New York Mills.  On the boys’ side, Park Rapids Area was first with a score of 35 and DGF took runner-up honors with a 79.  Little Falls was a close third with 80 points.  They were followed by Bertha-Hewitt, Border West, WDC, Pine River-Backus, Ashby-Brandon-Evansville, Parkers Prairie, New York Mills and Pillager.

Ashby-Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Robert Bosma said, “This was another meet where I was proud of the team. Many of them mentioned after the run that it was difficult after being in school all day for the first time this year. They ran heavy and weren't as mentally prepared as they usually are due to school starting. With that being said, the team fought hard with the other runners. We were down a couple runners due to illness/injury, but the others stepped up.”

Anjalie Aho of United North Central was the individual girls’ varsity champion, with Ayla Anez of Little Falls taking second place and two Pillager runners, Emma Reeder and Lindy Cordes coming in third and fourth, respectively.  Wadena-Deer Creek had the next two finishers, Johanna Brunsberg and Amber Collins.  Rounding out the top ten were Julia Schmidt of Border West, Natalia Lopez of Park Rapids Area, Lydia Oldakowski of WDC and Beth Ahlin of Little Falls.
