The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton girls’ cross country program is in a building mode heading into the 2021 season.  The Rebels will field an incomplete varsity team this fall, but are placing a heavy emphasis on developing a junior high program to rebuild the varsity in the future.

Senior Emma Friend and sophomore Alexis Rude are the two experienced varsity runners returning, with eighth-grader Isabel Toms being added to the varsity roster.

“Both the boys and girls train together which means the younger kids will be gaining from the experience of the juniors and seniors we have on the team,” commented veteran Head Coach Mike Anderson (23 years).  “We are looking for individual improvement throughout the season.”
Anderson will be assisted by Cade Dawson (Volunteer/JV) and Mary Wilson (Junior High).

Seventh-grader Evy Messerschmidt will join sixth-graders Harper Brunsvold, Stacy Erickson, Brooklyn Grubb, EmMarie Speer, Mia Varriano, Faith Vincent and Madelyn Wilkie on the junior high team.

“The sixth grade group is the largest class to be represented in the girls’ cross country program in about five years,” noted Coach Anderson.  “Most find it challenging and opt to do other activities in the fall.  One is hopeful to build off this group, as they compete at the junior high level during 2021.  The goal is to parallel the success that the boys’ program has had over the last several years.”

Anderson says Perham and West Central Area are the teams to beat in Section 8A and the HOL.  Both teams were state qualifiers in 2019.
