Porter Improves Record to 9-1 as Hurricanes Defeat Hanska Lakers 4-2

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes improved their season record to 19-6 with a 4-2 win over the Hanska Lakers on Sunday afternoon in the 98th Annual Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament, being played in Waconia.  With the win the Canes advance to play the Saint Martin Saints on Saturday, August 28 at 1:30pm in Chaska.

 

Hanska struck for a pair of runs in the second inning on a single, a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a pair of passed balls.

The Hurricanes pulled even with two fourth-inning runs.  Sean McGuire singled to lead off the inning.  Darin Stanislawski was hit by a pitch and replaced at first base by Austin Stanislawski.  A sacrifice bunt by Mitch Porter moved the runners to second and third.  A sacrifice fly by Jack Hiedeman scored McGuire and a base hit by Alex Hexum brought Austin Stanislawski home.

The Canes broke the tie in the fifth when Thomas Bosek drew a lead-off walk, was singled to second by Alex Hensch and scored on a McGuire base hit.

Fergus Falls added an insurance run in the sixth.  Hiedeman led off with a single, Hexum laid down a successful sacrifice bunt and Hiedeman scored on a Bosek base hit.

McGuire (2-4, R, RBI) and Bosek (2-2, R, BB, RBI) were the hitting leaders for Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls pitchers gave up only two hits and zero earned runs.  Draftee Alex Koep came in with two runners on base and one out in the sixth and recorded a strikeout and a fly out to end the Lakers last rally of the day.  Porter (5.1IP, 3K, 3BB, 2H, 2R, 0ER) was the winning pitcher and Koep (3.2IP, 6K, 0BB, 0H) earned the save.  Porter is now 9-1 on the season.
