Black Sox Advance to State Amateur Baseball Tourney by Beating Canes 10-3

The Alexandria Black Sox have qualified for the State Amateur Baseball Tournament, handing the Fergus Falls Hurricanes their first loss in the Region 16C Tourney at Urbank on Sunday.  The Black Sox posted a 10-3 win over the Canes to advance.  Fergus Falls will now move into a second state qualifier, facing the winner of the Urbank vs Kensington game on Saturday, August 14 at 1:00pm in Urbank.  Urbank and Kensington play an elimination game at 8:00pm Friday, also in Urbank.

 

Alexandria jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning on Sunday.  Eric Carlson and Brady Burgau drove in runs with hits and an error allowed a fourth run to cross the plate.

Fergus Falls trimmed the lead to 4-3 with a 3-run fourth inning.  An error and a walk put two Canes on base.  A single by Jack Hiedeman scored Alex Hensch, a single by Jake Anderson drove in Darin Stanislawski and an error led to the third run of the inning.

Carlson drove in another run for Alexandria in the sixth and the Black Sox added three more in the seventh with two runs scoring on another Fergus Falls error.  Alexandria finished the scoring with two in the eighth on a Mitch Thompson home run.

Carter Stockert (9IP, 4K, 2BB, 5H, 3R, 0ER) went the distance to earn the win for Alexandria.

Stanislawski (6IP, 6K, 2BB, 6H, 5R, 4ER) took the loss for the Canes.

Hitting leaders for Alexandria were Eric Carlson (2-4, R, 3RBI), Thompson (2-5, 2R, HR, 3RBI) and Matthew Carlson (2-5, 2R).

Jake Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored to lead Fergus Falls at the plate.

In other games Sunday, Urbank beat Dent 2-1, eliminating Dent, and Kensington knocked Sauk Centre out of the tournament with a 9-7 victory.
