The Fergus Falls Hurricanes were 8-0 winners over the Urbank Bombers on Saturday in the Region 16C Amateur Baseball Tournament. Mitch Porter (7IP, 8K, 3BB, 2H, 0R) was the winning pitcher and Eric Salveson pitched a scoreless two innings of relief.
The Canes scored five runs in the second inning. Mitch Porter led off with a single and Jack Hiedeman reached on a bunt single. After a pop out and a strike out, Thomas Bosek walked to load the bases. A Sean McGuire double cleared the bases. After a walk to Alex Hensch, Tosten Mann delivered a two-run double.
Fergus Falls added a single run in the third and then finished the scoring with two runs in the eighth on a double by Bosek, a triple by Hensch and a single by Mann.
Hitting leaders were Mann (3-4. 2B, 3RBI), Hiedeman (2-4, 2R) and McGuire (1-5, 2B, R, 3RBI).
In other Region 16C games, Kensington defeated Long Prairie by forfeit, Dent beat Vergas 3-2 in 10 innings and Alexandria beat Sauk Centre 5-0.
The Sunday schedule includes loser out games between Dent and Urbank and Kensington and Sauk Centre, and a state qualifier game between Fergus Falls and Alexandria. All games are in Urbank.
