The Fergus Falls Hurricanes collected 18 hits on Sunday afternoon as they opened Region 16C playoff action with a convincing 12-2 win over the Long Prairie Predators at the Fireman’s Field in Carlos.  Mitch Porter (7IP, 6K, 0BB, 5H, 1ER) went the distance to gain the win.

The Canes scored four times in the first inning, added three in the second, two in the third and their final three in the fifth inning.

In the first Sean McGuire led off with a single.  Alex Hensch laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached first base on an error and Tosten Mann reached on an infield single to load the bases.  Darin Stanislawski then launched a grand slam home run.

In the second, Thomas Bosek led off with a double and scored on a double by McGuire.  McGuire took third on a passed ball, Alex Hensch walked and stole second base and McGuire scored when Mann struck out on a ball in the dirt that forced the catcher to throw him out at first base.  Hensch then stole third and scored on an errant throw.

A bases loaded single by Mann drove in Jack Hiedeman and Bosek to increase the lead to 9-1.

The fifth inning started with a one out single by Hensch and a base hit by Mann.  Porter doubled home Hensch, Jake Anderson singled home Mann and Hiedeman brought Porter home with a single.
