The Fergus Falls American Legion baseball season ended on the second day of the District 14 Tournament Thursday at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park when Post 30 was beaten by Perham, 4-1.

Ben Swanson (5IP, 2R, 0ER, 6H, 2BB, 2K) started on the mound for Fergus Falls and threw the ball well.  Nathan Kenjalo pitched the final inning.  Swanson (1-3, RBI), Carter Thielke (1-3) and Andrew Johnson (2-3) led Post 30 at the plate.

The game was tied at 1-1 going into the sixth inning.  Perham scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning on 3 hits, one error and a pair of walks.  Post 30 threatened in the top of the seventh but was unable to push any runs across the plate.

“I thought we played well,” said Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “We had two errors which hurt us, but overall I am proud of the way the boys finished their season.  It was a very different looking team this year with only one senior playing.  We were very young with some freshmen and sophomores on the team playing significant roles.  There were definitely some bumps along the road, but the guys always had a good attitude and never gave up.  This years’ experience will serve them well next spring and next summer as well.  We will miss Aric Heacox next year as he was our only senior and did a fantastic job behind the plate and also handling our young pitching staff.  Heacox plans to attend NDSCS in the fall for welding.”

Larson added, “I want to thank my assistants, Tosten Mann and Spencer Strom for all their hard work throughout the season.  They make my job so easy and they do a great job working with the players.  I also want to thank Tom DeBrito, Greg Stumbo, Bill Gronwold, and countless others for their hard work in making the district tournaments run smoothly.  They did a lot of work behind the scenes and I don’t get enough credit.”

Moorhead defeated Bemidji 5-4 on Sunday to claim the District championship.
