The Barnesville 15U baseball team eliminated Ottertail Central on Saturday with a 4-2 eight-inning victory in the Babe Ruth State Tournament.

The game was tied at two with Barnesville batting in the top of the eighth when Tommy Slette doubled scoring two runs.  Barnesville had tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a double by Asher O’Brien.  Slette (2.2IP, 0R, 1H, 3K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher.  Andrew Ehlert (5.1IP, 4H, 2R, 6K) started for Barnesville.  Ehlert led Barnesville with two hits in four at bats.

Kale Misegades (2IP, 4R, 5H, 2K, 0BB) took the loss in relief of Lane Dilly (6IP, 0R, H, 10K).  Misegades went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead OTC.

“This was such a tough way to end the season,” commented Head Coach Evan Meece.  “We battled all the way to the end, but a few balls didn’t bounce our way and in the end Barnesville ended up ahead.  Lane threw an outstanding game, but his pitch count kept him from finishing it.  A few more timely hits and less defensive miscues and the results is different.  This was such a fun season of baseball and it was a joy to work with this group of young men.  Every day at the ballpark was a pleasure and I look forward to the bright future of the OTC program.  More good things are on the way.  This definitely won’t be our last state tournament.”
