The number two seeded Moorhead Blues opened play in the District 14 American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday night with an 11-1 victory over the host team, Fergus Falls Post 30.

Moorhead scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of two errors and one hit.  The Blues added 3 more runs of 2 more errors in the bottom of the second, making it 5-0, taking control of the game.

Post 30 scored their only run of the game in the top of the fifth when Nathan Kenjalo started off the inning with a double and scored on a double play.  Kenjalo and Cole Zierden both went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the offensive effort.  Carter Thielke (4IP, 8H, 11R, 2ER, 2BB, 2K) was the starting and losing pitcher.

“We came out and played way too sloppy defensively to have much of a chance,” noted Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “Six errors in five innings will not get it done.  We also need to find a way to put the ball in play more.”

Post 30 will play Perham on Thursday at 1:30pm in an elimination game at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.

Here are the other first round results:
East Grand Forks 5, Perham 4
Alexandria 2, Detroit Lakes 1
Bemidji 4, Thief River Falls 3
