OTC 13U Dawgs Win State Title in Convincing Fashion

The Ottertail Central 13U Dawgs won the State title by defeating Baxter 16-3 on Sunday afternoon.  The Dawgs went 6-0 in State Tournament play, beating their competition 60-11 with their closest game being a 6-5 win over Paynesville on Friday afternoon.  The Dawgs stole 59 bases compared to 10 by their opponents, outhit their opponents 61-27 and only committed 7 errors in 6 games, including an errorless effort in the championship game.

Coach Ryan Hendrickson said, “This is pretty special for everyone.  We are really proud of these boys and their efforts.  This is the first group that started our elementary travel ball leagues 5 years ago, organized by Kellen Shebeck, and now we are really seeing the time and work of players, families and communities pay off.  I am super proud of everyone committed to our baseball programs, especially these players.  This has been a very special group of players and a season I will never forget and I hope they never forget either.”

Dylan Evavold, at OTC players named tournament MVP said, “I am proud of us and really enjoyed being with the guys.  It was fun committing to a common goal together.”

Kale Misegades, another tournament MVP said, “This was a great team to be a part of, we all are really good friends.  I can’t wait to continue our baseball careers together.  It was fun that everybody rooted for each other.  This was awesome!”

In the championship game, Evavold gave Baxter fits, picking up four hits, including 3 doubles.

OTC grabbed an early lead on a double by Evavold in the first inning, a single by Misegades in the second inning and a double by Ayden Olson in the second inning.  The Dawgs pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a 2-run single off the bat of Misegades.  The Dawgs put up four runs in the seventh inning with RBI hits coming from Breidyn Solberg and Evavold.

AJ Woodworth (4IP, 5K, 1H, 3R) was the winning pitcher for OTC.  Evavold threw 3 innings of relief.

Ottertail Central 13U totaled 16 hits on the day.  Evavold, Ryan Despard, Collin Lukken, Olson and Misegades all collected multiple hits.  OTC also stole 14 bases during the game, led by 4 from Evavold.

Braxton Tautges went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Baxter.
