Evan Lunde drove in a pair of runs with a fifth-inning double and four Perham errors led to two unearned runs, including the game winner, as Wadena-Deer Creek posted a 3-2 victory in 9 innings to win the Section 8AA baseball championship on Friday in Wadena.

Chas Melvin answered Lunde’s double with a 2-run double of his own in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

Two of the four Perham errors came in the top of the ninth as Zach Shaw reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to third on another error.  He scored on a sacrifice bunt by Lunde.

The Yellowjackets had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning as Ben Shumansky reached on a one-out single moved to second on a base hit by Rian Solberg and advanced to third on a passed ball with Solberg taking second on the same pitch.  Logan Pulju was then intentionally walked and the Wolverines got out of the jam when Gage Germolus was retired on a fly ball to left field Isaac Hamann who threw out Shumansky trying to score the winning run.

Josh Dykhoff led Wadena-Deer Creek at the plate, going 2-for-4.  Peyton Rondestvadt (8IP, 2R, 2ER, 7K, 2BB, 8H) was the winning pitcher and Tony Kreklau pitched the ninth to earn a save.

The loss went to Caden Schossow (8.2IP, 5H, 3R, 1ER, 5K, 2BB).

Offensive leaders for the Yellowjackets were Melvin (2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI) and Shumansky (2-4).

Perham ends their season with 21 wins and 5 losses.  Wadena-Deer Creek advances to the Class AA State Tournament with a season record of 25-3.
